From Engagement to At-Home Elopement: Alyssa & Dane
I met Alyssa and Dane earlier this year for their engagement photos in Grand Pré at the historic park. At the time, we were celebrating an engagement! What I didn’t know yet was that a little while later, I’d be invited back — this time into their home to photograph their elopement.
That kind of trust never goes unnoticed.
Getting married at home changes everything.
There’s no learning a new space or adjusting to somewhere unfamiliar. You’re already comfortable. You already belong there. And because of that, the day feels softer, quieter — more real.
Alyssa and Dane’s home already held so much meaning before the wedding day even began. Photographing them there felt intimate in a way that’s hard to put into words. It wasn’t about making things look a certain way. It was about letting the day unfold exactly as it was.
Nothing felt rushed. Nothing felt staged.
From “Just Engaged” to Married
One of the things I love most about this work is getting to witness more than one chapter.
I first met them when they were newly engaged — excited, a little nervous, soaking it all in. Coming back to photograph their elopement felt like stepping into the next part of that same story.
Same people. Same connection. Just deeper.
I’ll never take it lightly when couples trust me with moments like this — from “just engaged” to married at home.
Why At-Home Elopements Feel So Special
At-home elopements strip away the pressure.
There’s no performance. No expectations to meet. The focus naturally lands where it should — on the commitment you’re making and the person you’re making it with.
From a photography perspective, these days are full of the in-between moments. The ones you don’t plan for. A hand squeeze. A deep breath. A quiet laugh when no one else is watching.
Those are the moments I’m always looking for.
Words I’ll Carry With Me
After their wedding, Alyssa shared this with me:
“We hired Photos by Devyn after coming across their Instagram. I loved the warmth and creativity each photo showed! We’ve had the pleasure of not only doing engagement photos together but also using Photos by Devyn for our wedding photos! The photos captured my partner and myself in ways I could have never imagined! So grateful for Devyn’s talent and fun loving self who helped make our special day extra special 🤍 highly recommend!!”
These are the words I carry with me — especially on the days when I need the reminder of why this work matters so much.
My final thoughts
Alyssa and Dane’s at-home elopement was quiet, intentional, and full of meaning.
A reminder that weddings don’t have to be big or traditional to be powerful. Sometimes, the most meaningful place to get married is the one where your life already exists.
